How many scriptures in the Bible command us to forgive?
Forgive those who hurt us.
Forgive our enemies.
Forgive those who don’t wish us well.
But what about those who’ve lied to us… betrayed us… even defrauded us?
There are over 100 scriptures in the Bible that speak about forgiveness — a sign of just how vital it is to God.  Forgiveness isn’t a suggestion.  It’s a command.  A lifestyle.  A reflection of God’s very heart.
The Bible directly speaks about forgiveness, whether it’s:
- God forgiving us
- Us forgiving others
- The cost of unforgiveness
- And the blessing and freedom that come when we forgive
The Bible Speaks Loudly on Forgiveness
Psalm 103:3 reminds us that God “forgives all your iniquities” — not some, not a select few, but all.
And in Psalm 103:6, we are reminded: “The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.”
These verses remind us that forgiveness doesn’t erase the injustice — but it hands it over to God, the One who works righteousness and justice in His perfect timing.
That means forgiveness is not about pretending the pain didn’t happen.
It’s about releasing the right to avenge it — and trusting God to bring justice, healing, and closure in His time.
Forgiveness doesn’t say, “It’s okay.”
It says, “I’m no longer holding this.”
Forgiving Myself
God’s forgiveness isn’t partial — it covers everything, even the things we still hold against ourselves.  The cross wasn’t just for others.  It was for me, too.  If He has let it go… why am I still holding it?
- “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” – Romans 8:1
- “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow.” – Isaiah 1:18
- “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” – Psalm 103:12
Forgiving myself isn’t weakness.  It’s an act of surrender — of agreeing with God’s mercy instead of my shame.
🌿 Why Does God Emphasise Forgiveness?
I’ve come to realise something:
Forgiving people has less to do with them — and everything to do with my own growth.
Every person we meet is a destiny helper, whether wrapped in grace or grief.
Some come to love us. Â Others come to wound us.
But all come with a purpose — not to teach us about them, but to reveal something within us.
God allows people into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
Each encounter is a mirror.  A lesson.  A test of how much we’ve grown, and how willing we are to keep growing.
And why is this growth necessary?
Because spiritual elevation requires emotional maturity.
If we refuse to grow, we remain stuck — in bitterness, in trauma, in low vibrations.
But when we choose to forgive, we release the burden and rise. Â We make room for healing, for clarity, for divine alignment.
Forgiveness, then, becomes more than an act of mercy —
It becomes an act of surrender. Â An act of becoming.
Â
🧠The Hidden Weight of Unforgiveness
It’s easy to hold a grudge.
It makes us feel justified. Â Protected. Â In control.
But what we don’t realise is that grudges keep us bitter, angry, and stuck in the past.
We replay the scenes in our minds, tightening the chains each time.
Meanwhile, the very person we’re holding a grudge against… has moved on (often times).
They may not even remember what happened.
But we’re still there — caged in a prison of loathing, unforgiveness, and unresolved pain.
That grudge becomes our companion.
But it’s not loyal — it’s lethal.
We often say, “I’ll never forgive that person.”
Or “I’ll never forgive what they did.”
But those grudges — that unforgiveness — is energy.
And since we are energy beings, what happens to that toxic energy inside the body?
Let’s Ask Ourselves:
Were our bodies designed to hold on to that kind of heaviness?
Where does all that anger, disappointment, and resentment go if it’s not intentionally released?
It lingers.
It festers.
And too often… it manifests as dis-ease.
Unexplained fatigue.
Migraines.
Autoimmune flares.
Even spiritual stagnation.
Yes — there may be many causes to what we feel in our bodies.
But we must ask: What’s causing mine?
Who do I need to forgive so I can finally be well?
đź’ What Forgiveness Unlocks
Forgiveness is more than a command —
It’s a key.
A key that unlocks peace, clarity, and elevation.
A key that frees us from the prison we didn’t even know we were in.
When we forgive, we step into alignment with Heaven’s rhythm.
We unhook ourselves from resentment.
We release the past from our back and give our soul permission to breathe again.
And what’s more — when we forgive, we disarm the enemy.
He feeds off cycles of bitterness. Â He thrives in unhealed places.
But forgiveness? Â It dries up his food source.
It silences the accuser.
It whispers to our wounds: “You are no longer owned by this pain.”
🕊️ A Moment to Reflect
Who – or what – do I need to forgive in order to be free?
Not for their sake. Â For mine.
For my peace and joy. Â For my next chapter.
For my vibration to rise. Â For my spirit to rest.
What if your healing is waiting…
on the other side of letting go?
🪞 A Reflection Prompt
Who comes to mind when you read this?
Ask God why.
And ask Him how to begin the process of release — even if it’s one whisper, one prayer, one tear at a time.
🙏 A Gentle Prayer of Release
Lord, I want to be free.
I surrender the pain I’ve carried — the grudges, the memories, the words that wounded.
I give them to You.
Teach me how to forgive. Â Teach me how to release.
And where I am struggling to let go, help me anyway.
Your Word in Isaiah 43:18–19 says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!”
I no longer want to carry what You already died to take away.
I open my hands and my heart to the new thing You are doing in me.
I declare and decree that I am no longer bound by the past.
Bitterness has no hold on me.
Unforgiveness has no root in me.
I am healed, I am whole, and I am free.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
